The MQ-9 Gas Sensor Module is a versatile gas detection sensor designed to detect Carbon Monoxide (CO), Methane (CH₄), LPG, Propane, and other combustible gases. It is suitable for use in Arduino, Raspberry Pi, microcontroller, robotics, IoT, gas monitoring, and DIY electronics projects.
The MQ-9 sensor uses SnO₂ (tin dioxide) as its sensitive material. In clean air, the sensor has relatively low conductivity. When target gases are present, the sensor’s conductivity increases according to the gas concentration, enabling gas detection through changes in electrical resistance.
The MQ-9 uses a cyclic heating method for improved gas detection. At a lower heating temperature of approximately 1.5V, it is primarily sensitive to Carbon Monoxide (CO). At a higher heating temperature of approximately 5.0V, the sensor can detect Methane, LPG, Propane, and other combustible gases.
